Sherman is a mix of developed residential areas and farmland. A town of roughly 50,000 people, it adopts a slower pace than the nearby metropolises. It’s especially attractive to those seeking affordability, open space, and the warm glow of football’s Friday night lights.
Many Sherman residents have been there: Unable to focus on the task at hand, overwhelmed by the “what-ifs?” of the world, haunted by the past, or on edge and defeated outside our comfort zones. If any of this sounds familiar . . . if you’ve sat in a room full of people but felt empty, if your mind seems like it has a mind of its own, if you’ve felt uncertain, uninspired, or unable to pull yourself out of an anxious abyss or a funk that won’t fade, you’re not alone.
I’m here to offer something different. Blending proven modalities with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, I don’t just treat you: I see you.
Working with children, adults, and families, I offer convenient telehealth services focused on a variety of mental health challenges, including ADHD, selective mutism, autism, anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders.
In my practice, I help clients feel safe enough to be fully honest, try new behaviors, and move through even the most complex challenges with clarity. Rather than staying at the surface, we work together to understand what’s underneath and create real, lasting change using a range of modalities, including:
Sherman is tucked into the corner of northern Texas, about ten miles from the Oklahoma border. A medley of farmland and suburbia, it’s a town teetering among sun-kissed fields, rolling ranches, and residential neighborhoods. Here, the roads are wide, the skies are open, and the land is rich in history and possibility.
While Texas is known for doing everything big, this town offers a different kind of charm. With a population of around 50,000, it’s a far cry from the bustling hubs of Dallas, Houston, and Austin; here “quaint” isn’t just a word, but a way of life. The residents move at a measured pace, often opting for slow and steady over hustle and bustle. The culture is friendly and inviting, with a strong sense of belonging, school spirit, and civic involvement.
Of course, like elsewhere in the state, Friday night lights shine brightly and football, from peewee to high school to college and beyond, is a staple of weekend activities. The 120-year rivalry between the Sherman Bearcats and the Denison Yellow Jackets is the oldest high school rivalry in Texas, a source of pride, excitement, and sold-out crowds.
Known for its affordable housing, work-life balance, and down-to-earth ethos, this city is home to both long-time residents and newcomers seeking an edge-of-the-action existence without sacrificing convenience. Dallas and Fort Worth are just over an hour away for those after a big-city adventure. In town, locals and visitors enjoy outdoor activities, parks, shopping districts, walking tours, arts and cultural venues, and eclectic eateries serving Tex-Mex, seafood, pizza, and, naturally, plenty of barbecue!
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that shows up differently in different people. It can be dominated by a lack of focus or forgetfulness, hyperactivity and impulsivity, or a combination of these. Symptoms exist on a spectrum (and may change over time). While it’s often diagnosed in childhood, it might not be identified until later in life.
Selective mutism is a type of anxiety disorder that most often impacts children. It’s defined by the inability to speak in certain social contexts, despite being able to communicate effectively in other environments. It’s not a choice or an act of defiance but rather something perpetuated by fear or discomfort.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a type of neurodevelopmental disorder that highly influences social interaction, communication, and everyday perception. It exists on a spectrum, ranging from severe symptoms down to more subtle ones. Those affected may exhibit sensory challenges, repetitive behaviors, distinct emotional processing patterns, and interpersonal difficulties.
Anxiety disorders are defined by perpetual worry, phobias, or obsessive thinking that interferes with daily life. Anxiety is distinct from appropriate forms of fear in that it’s extreme and present in the absence of an actual threat. Those with anxiety are often on high alert at all times, which impacts decision-making, relationships, work/school, and everyday enjoyment. In Sherman, like other parts of Texas, anxiety disorders are especially common.
Trauma is a psychological, physiological, and emotional response to disturbing and distressing events. While it often involves life-threatening events, such as war, car accidents, or assaults, it can also involve more subtle ones (such as bullying, breakups, and emotional neglect). Either way, past trauma dramatically impacts the future, influencing thoughts, behaviors, and relationships.
Mood disorders come with a range of symptoms and often exhibit hopelessness and depression or mania and euphoria. Major depressive disorder involves feelings of sadness, lack of interest, and low energy. Bipolar disorder is marked by extreme mood swings, often fluctuating between depression and mania, and resulting in a wide array of behaviors.
